Reasons to impeach

Yesterday President Donald Trump told congressional Republicans:

“You gotta win the midterms ’cause, if we don’t win the midterms, it’s just gonna be – I mean, they’ll find a reason to impeach me”

They don’t have to look very hard, I can immediately think of several reasons to impeach. There are probably other but these come to mind.

  • The murder of over 100 civilians on suspicion of carrying illegal drugs (probably a war crime and certainly a violation of due process), including 2 killed while clinging to the wreckage of their boat (a war crime)
  • The invasion of Venezuela with its constantly shifting rationales and failure to consult Congress
  • President Trump has made millions, if not billions, of dollars for he and his family, possibly in violation to the Emoluments clause of the Constitution

January 6, 2026

It is the 5th anniversary of the 2021 January 6 insurrection. Remember the heroes of that day, the Police who protected our elected officials.

Do not forget who were the bad guys. Some Republicans would have you believe the bad guys were FBI agents or Antifa in disguise as Trump supporters, peaceful demonstrators attacked by the police and other things that make no sense.

Winter: The Story of a Season by Val McDermid

This is a review of Winter: The Story of a Season, a soon-to-be-published book by Val McDermid.

Winter is not my favorite time of year. In fact I consider it the worst of all seasons but I found it interesting to read an opposite opinion from one of my favorite writers. I especially enjoy Val McDermid’s Karen Pirie and Allie Burns series.

But moving on to Winter, this is a book of relatively short essays on memories of growing up in Scotland, discussions of winter festivals in Scotland and of course the role of winter in her writing process.

I thank both Netgalley (https://www.netgalley.com ) and Grove Atlantic (https://groveatlantic.com/) for the chance to read this before publication. The book will be published on January 13, 2026.

I read this book, despite my dislike of the season. I’m glad I read it and I hope you will give it a try. Anyone with an interest is Scotland or the author would probably enjoy this book.
